CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY PROMPTS PLANT EXPANSIONS

10/14/04 - Two North Dakota companies have recently announced expansions prompted by growth in residential and commercial construction.

Marvin Windows and Doors announced it will add 40 jobs to the more than 500 jobs located at the companys Grafton location. Marvin Windows and Doors is the worlds largest manufacturer of made-to-order wood and clad wood windows and doors. This expansion brings the plants total space to 470,000 square feet.

Over the next 18 months they plan to add about 80 new jobs at three of their window and door manufacturing facilities in Grafton and Fargo. In addition to its Grafton facility, Marvin operates Integrity Windows and Doors and Infinity Replacement Windows in Fargo. The company also has a joint partnership in Tecton Products in Fargo. In total, Marvin Windows and Doors, along with its suppliers, has more than 1,700 employees in North Dakota.

Glass manufacturer Cardinal IG announced it is building a $4 million, 103,814-square-foot addition to its plant in the Fargo Industrial Park. When the 470,390-square-foot facility is completed, its size will be equivalent to having 10 acres of production space under one roof.

Cardinal produces glass for windows and doors. About 90 percent of what its 380 employees produce in Fargo goes to Marvin Windows and its subsidiaries Integrity Windows and Doors and Infinity Windows. In fact the plant itself was built at the request of Marvin Windows to supply Integrity Windows.

The new addition will house a fifth production line and more warehouse space. It will result in the hiring of 25 to 50 more workers.
