Department of Commerce Promotes Two

BISMARCK, ND The Department of Commerce (DOC) promoted LaVonne Stair and Larry Martin.

Stair was promoted to office manager for the Department of Commerce from administration and support coordinator for the division of Economic Development & Finance (ED&F;). Stair's promotion has expanded her responsibilities substantially.

The Department of Commerce is comprised of the four divisions: Community Services, Economic Development & Finance, Tourism and Workforce Development.

As office manager, Stair will primarily oversee people and resources to enhance administration and operations. Stair has worked for ED&F; for 13 years. She has an accounting degree from the University of Mary and is now enrolled in its master�s degree program for human resources. Additionally, she is a member of the Central Dakota Human Resources Association.

Martin was promoted to financial manager of the Department of Commerce from business manager for the Division of Community Services. As financial manager, he oversees the Commerce Department's accounting and grant management operations, as well as the appropriation budget.

Martin has worked for Community Services since January 1998. Prior to that, he was fiscal officer for the Community Action Agency of Minot for eight years and auditor for Eide Bailley, also of Minot, for two years. Martin graduated from Minot State University with an accounting degree. He is now a certified public accountant (CPA) and a member of the North Dakota Society of CPAs. He has also taken a grants management course in Washington D.C. through Management Concepts, an organization which provides training for those who deal with federal funding. Martin lives in Mandan with his wife and two children.
