PEPSIAMERICAS ANNOUNCES EXPANSION TO FARGO

4/02/03 - Fargo, N.D. - PepsiAmericas' announcement today that it will add up to 200 jobs in Fargo with a new customer sales and support center is the result of a strong partnership between the state and local economic developers, according to the state's lead economic developer.

Lee Peterson, commissioner of the North Dakota Department of Commerce said, "A strong partnership between Fargo Cass County Economic Development and the Department of Commerce has helped bring the PepsiAmericas project to reality."

Peterson also credited the efforts of George W. Haugo, vice president and general manager of PepsiAmericas Northwest Division, who Peterson says gave North Dakota the opportunity to work with PepsiAmericas executives when they were deciding in which state to locate this new facility.

Gov. John Hoeven said, "The new PepsiAmericas customer sales and support center brings quality jobs and will provide a significant and positive economic impact in Fargo-Moorhead and North Dakota. We were competing with other states and this shows the success of a strong team effort by community and state economic developers working together. In addition, I'd like to commend George Haugo for his leadership in making this happen."

Haugo said that the aggressive and accommodating efforts of officials in North Dakota as well as the proven work ethic of the people made the decision to add the center in Fargo an easy one.

The 200 new jobs will bring the total number of PepsiAmericas employees in Fargo to nearly 350. Fargo is already home to a PepsiAmericas sales distribution center, a production center, a transportation center and the Northwest Division's corporate offices. Peterson said the majority of the work the Department of Commerce's Economic Development & Finance Division does is with businesses within the state by encouraging business expansions and new business startups.

Peterson said, "With PepsiAmericas' announcement today, we are once again proving that we are getting the job done by doing things differently. It takes teamwork to make economic development happen. At the North Dakota Department of Commerce we are committed to building solid relationships with local communities and local economic developers. We will continue to partner with and support North Dakota communities to create quality career jobs and working together, we will continue to succeed."
